Reviews of contemporary science issues

Several lessons on science require self-study online while others needed further revision of notes and self-done research. When I was first introduced to the basics of chemistry, I knew nothing of the chemical equation and related things. I did some research on my own to find information to complete my homework. With the help of friends and some research, I managed to complete my homework on time. During our examination period, our school's learning website IVLE become a major learning platform. It was important for us to review our notes through there in order to score well for the exam. All my classmates visited the website frequently during the exam period. It became a habit that we did every day. Additionally, unknown questions would pop out suddenly so we had to do our own research in order to be able to do our homework. I did independent research very frequently in order to do well in the subject science. Also, I learnt self directed learning through these researches.

Reflections on work

Regarding work given by my teacher, although there were quite a bit to finish I managed to finish them before the deadline. I finished homework with some help of the notes given to me by my teacher and also the research I did on my own. My friends helped one another when doing the homework, explaining questions that we did not understand to each other. Before the exams, we also came up with notes for each other to review. This way of revision and doing our homework not only benefits my friends but myself as well. As I went through the notes I also recalled things that our teacher taught us, thus this was a very effective method. The revision of notes also in a way bonded our class. On excursions, we did the things needed to be done as a class. thus our class  grew stronger in terms of our team spirits. In the laboratory, our teacher often did experiments and hands-on activities. There were some incidents that happened in the lab for our class. Quite a few times did my classmates spoil the equipments in the lab. In the end, they had to compensate for the things that they spoiled. Our teacher reminded us to be more careful the next time we enter the lab, and we remembered in our hearts what he said always. Science lessons were very fun as our teacher made it to be. I enjoyed my science lessons thoroughly.

Reflections on termly performance

Here, I am sharing some of my term grades and reflections on them.
For my term 1 science exam, I did not do very well as it was my first term in Hwa Chong and I had not adapted to life there yet. So, I scored an A2 for the subject. I learned that studying was all dependent on myself, I had to review all my notes thoroughly as unexpected things may appear in the questions.
In term 2, I applied what I learnt in term 1 to my examination preparations. I reviewed my notes fully and did some background research too. In the end, my hard work paid off and I obtained an A1. In these two terms, I learnt many new science facts and things that I had never known of before. I also felt that I had grown in my understanding of science.

Issues learning Science

I learn Science in my school. My Science teacher is the handsome Mr Lim Seow Yi. Personally, I feel that science lessons are very fun just as it is, but science lessons with hands-on activities and experiments are even much more fun. So far, there has not been much issues in the learning of science. However, I wish to say that my science lessons do not include much homework. I hope for more homework to do to keep myself busy. Another issue that I wish to address is the number of hands-on activities. There are not much activities to try out and I hope that there would be more of such hands-on activities to test out our understanding of the subject. Furthurmore, the activities would teach us how to handle things when doing similar experiments in future. The method of teaching science in my school is relatively fine, there is nothing bad about it. There is actually one thing I wish to say: There are very few science excursions. I really hope to have more science excursions to go out and learn more things. Overall, I have only problems with the following things:

1. There are not quite enough hands-on activities
2. Very few science learning trips are organised
3. Not a lot of homework to do

I suggest that maybe more science learning journeys can be organised for the benefit of the learning of students. Teachers can also keep students busy by giving more homework for them to do. Also, teachers can conduct more hands-on activities for their students to do.

Welcome Message

Dear Readers,
This is my first post of my Science E-portfolio. This post hopes to find you in the pink of health.

Yours sincerely,
